Czech wildwater team was considered the strongest before the championships and so far their athletes are performing in accordance with this. On the second day of the ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Skopje Czech Republic won seven medals. Eight events were organised today and they have won four team European Champion titles. Germany finished the day with a total of four medals, the same as France and Italy. Belgium had an excellent day with three medals, one of each colour, and Great Britain and Slovenia also won a medal each today.
Czech kayakers Barbora Dimovova, Karolina Paloudova and Dominika Dvorakova produced the fastest time in women’s junior K1 team event to win the European Champion title in front of Slovenians Eva Alina Hočevar, Lea Novak and Helena Domajnko and team of Great Britain with Laura Milne, Jodie Ball and Esme Durrant on the squad.
Czech men’s C1junior team also celebrated a secure win with over 20 seconds faster time than anyone else in this event. Vojtech Klima, Filip Janu and Daniel Urban were those three canoeists who produced the fastest time to win gold medal in front of teams from France (Mathis Perreau, Louis Passernig, Maxime Kabir) and Germany (Till Fladung, Sven Otten, Michel Zentgraf).
Martina Satkova and Anežka Paloudova were members of two golden teams in today’s classic events. Together with Barbora Bayerova they’ve become U23 K1W European Champions and with Karolina Paloudova U23 C1W team Champions. Italians Giulia Formenton, Mathilde Rosa and Marta Benedetti were second in women’s K1 team event and Belgian kayakers Louisiane Levaque, Laurane Sinnesael and Jorinde Van Der Zypen finished the event in third place.
In women’s C1 U23 event Czech Republic beat everyone else for almost half a minute. Helene Raguenes, Margot Beziat and Elsa Gaubert from France were second, while Italian team with Alice and Cecilia Panato and Giulia Formenton crossed the finish line with the third time of the day.
Men’s K1 U23 race ended with much joy for Germany. Marcel Paufler and Nico Paufler, the best in U23 individual classic event of this European Championships, were accompanied by Finn Hartstein and they did not have much trouble winning the gold medal. Bram Sikkens, Samuel Pype and Leo Montulet from Belgium were 21, 5 seconds behind in the final standings, while Czech team with Vojtech Zapletal, Matyas Zieris and Adam Neubert crossed the finish line 35,20 second behind to win bronze medal.
Germany picked up gold medal in men’s C1 U23 event too. Ole Schwarz, Janosch Sulzer and David Lemmen produced the best run to finish the race in front of Italian (Giorgio dell’Agostino, Mattia Quintarelli, Giacomo Bianchetti) and French (Nicolas Sauteur, Etienne Klatt, Tom Ydoux) canoeists.
In Junior men’s K1 team race Belgium won the European champion title thanks to Alban Duvivier, Louis Malevez and Kilian Meersmans. Czech Republic with Vojtech Matejicek, Daniel Koblizek and Roman Ivanek was second and German kayakers Ben Langenbeck, Marcel Blum and Simon Puttkammer were third.
In the last event of the day – men’s C2 U23 team classic race – France (Reboul – De Brye, Roussin – Roussin, Sauteur – Ydoux) celebrated a gold medal ahead of Czech Republic (Jelinek – Kristek, Sotola – Smoldas, Hendrych – Nachtigal) and Italy (Quintarelli – dell’Agostino, Bianchetti – Mapelli, Erriquez –Razeto).
On Saturday the 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships continues with individual wildwater sprint heats.
