Slovak Canoeing mourns former president Anton Zerer 23.3.2018

Sad news comes from Slovakia where canoeing family mourns the death of Anton Zerer, a sports journalist and former president of the Slovak Canoe Slalom and Wildwater Federation. Anton Zerer (born in 1950) was a president of the federation between the years 2001 and 2002.


Anton Zerer was one of the most famous and respected Slovak sports journalists. He graduated from journalism at Comenius University in Bratislava and worked in the Pravda newspaper for almost three decades. He also worked as a spokesperson and public relations manager at the Slovak Olympic Committee. He participated at seven Olympic Games, four times as a journalist (Sarajevo 1984, Albertville 1992, Lillehammer 1994 and Atlanta 1996) and three times as a spokesperson of Slovak Olympic Team (Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002 and Athens 2004). He was also a writer and translator. He was the author of many sports books, including the book about Hochschorner brothers (The Bay of Champions: Hochschorners / Zátoka šampiónov: Hochschornerovci).
