Only one race is left in the 2019 ECA European Open Canoe Slalom race series which is in its first and test season. All six races that count for the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom series are organised as part of the ICF’s World ranking races. Five races have already been held this year, there is only a competition in Bratislava ahead of slalom paddlers and in the current standings representatives from Slovakia, France and Slovenia hold the top positions in four categories that count for the race series.
So far the canoe slalom paddlers have competed at races in Markkleeberg (GER), Tacen (SLO), Liptovsky Mikulas (SVK), Merano (ITA) and Prague (CZE). Some of the competitors took part in three out of five races, some in two, and many of them only competed at one race.
Slovakia dominates in women’s canoe standings, occupying all three top positions. Monika Skachova is in the lead with a total of 133 points from the races in Markkleeberg, Liptovsky Mikulaš and Prague. Only four points behind is her teammate Emaniela Luknarova, while Simona Macekova currently resides in third position with a total of 109 points.
Another Slovak is in the lead in women’s kayak standings. Eliska Mintalova has a total of 120 points, having a strong lead ahead of second placed Maria Clara Giai Pron. Italian paddler has 94 points at the moment, while Elena Kaliska from Slovakia gathered 82 points and is currently third.
French kayaker Yves Prigent and Slovak Andrej Malek lead men’s kayak standings with a total of 101 points each. Czech representative Vit Prindis is currently third, but only one point behind the leading duo.
There are two canoeists from Slovenia in the top three in men’s canoe event. Jure Lenarcic is in the lead with 129 points, Slovak slalomist Marko Mirgorodsky is second with 110 points and Anze Bercic from Slovenia is third with 92 points.
Sixth and final race of the 2019 ECA European Open Canoe Slalom race series will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia, from 9th to 11thAugust 2019.
