Slovenian kayaker Eva Alina Hočevar second best European Young Athlete 10.11.2018

During the 47th annual EOC General Assembly in Marbella, Spain, the 8th Piotr Nurowski Prize was awarded to the best European Young Athletes. Among the five nominees was also Slovenian canoe slalom and wildwater canoeing paddler Eva Alina Hočevar who took the second prize of the evening.


 
Eva Alina Hočevar, the 2018 K1W Canoe Slalom Junior World Champion and silver medallist of the 2018 ECA Junior Canoe Slalom European Championships as well as holder of team events medals and Junior Wildwater Canoeing European Championships medallist, ends the year 2018 with another success. At the 8th edition of Piotr Nurowski awards for the best European Young Athletes in summer sports 50 delegates voted her in the second position among the five nominees.
 
 
“I am very happy to win this international award among all the sports. This award means a lot to me. I did not expect to win the second position, because the competition was really hard,” said Eva Alina after the ceremony. All five nominees will also receive a scholarship for their training camps.
 
The winner of this year’s award was Austrian cyclist Laura Stigger, while the other nominees were Ajda Kesely from Hungary, Iga Swiatek from Poland and Jakub Stastny from Czech Republic.
 
These prizes for the Best European Young Athletes were first awarded in 2011 when Slovenian kayaker, Youth Olympic champion in canoe slalom, Simon Brus was among the nominees, in 2014 Moldavian canoe sprinter Serghei Tarnovschi was nominated, in 2015 Slovak canoe slalomist Jakub Grigar was among the best and in 2016 Nadzeya Makarchanka, canoe sprinter from Belarus, was one of the best European Young Athletes.
