The decision came after the previsioned ICF Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships had to be cancelled. It became clear the world championships would not be valid due to the lack of representatives from the other continents, following the travel restrictions and difficulties connected with Covid-19.

 

 

The local organisers were willing to organise the European Championships for young wildwater paddlers instead and the ECA's board of directors confirmed the proposal to organise the European Championships one week after the ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships on the same venue.

 

 

The ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships will take place on the Soča River between 19th and 22nd August, while the 2021 ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships will be organised between 25th and 28th August.
