After intense and long selection process where at the end seven paddlers fought for the four places Spain has announced names of those who will be a part of the crew. Different combinations with Saul Craviotto, Cristian Toro, Marcus Cooper, Carlos Garrote, Rodrigo Germade, Roi Rodríguez and Carlos Arévalo were tested in Trasona regatta field and the combination with Saul Craviotto, Cristian Toro, Marcus Cooper Walz and Rodrigo Germande proved to be the best. They will compete at the World Cup event in Szeged, Hungary, and ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The names in the crew promise a frightening boat with gold medals in mind, as well as a sight oriented towards the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. With potential for the Olympic medal it might well mean Saul Craviotto could join David Cal and share the title of Spanish Olympian with the most medals won.
All members of the boat are multiple medallists from Olympic Games, European and World Championships. Saul Craviotto has four Olympic medals, two of them are gold, and more than 10 medals from World and European Championships. Cristian Toro won Olympic Gold medal together with Craviotto in men’s K2, and two more medals at last year’s World Championships, Marcus Cooper Walz is Rio Olympic Champion as well, and has four medals from World Championships, while Rodrigo Germade until now three medals at World and European Championships.
