Spanish celebration in mixed SS2 at Ocean Racing World Championships 5.10.2024

On the second competition day of the 2024 ICF Ocean Racing World Championships on Madeira Island, Portugal, it was Spain that celebrated a double win in prestigious mixed SS2 event.


This was the second time the mixed SS2 event was an official World Championships event and it was again Spain that took the glory. In 2023, it was Judit Verges Xifra and Walter Bouzan that were crowned World Champions, and now it was the turn of their teammates Chloe Bunnett and Victor Rodriguez. It was a tight race between the defending champions and the new World Champions. Bunnet and Rodriguez stopped the clock at 1:29:32.86, while Verges Xifra and Bouzan picked up silver with a time of 1:29:54.95. Bronze went to South Africa with Matthew Fenn and Saskia Johanna Hockly who finished in 1:30:50.68.
 
In mixed U23 SS2 event, it was silver and bronze medal for European representatives, while Georgia Singe and Ulvard Hart of South Africa took the gold. Portugal’s Bernardo Pereira and Ana Brito won silver medal, while the bronze went to Spain’s Padlo St Mary and Sara Mengual.
 
In junior mixed SS2 race, South Africans Holly Smith and Ryley Smith won ahead of two Spanish crews. Pablo Rosco Garcia and Lara Cellier won silver medal and Asier Aizpurua and Nur Hachawi finished third.
