Strong start for European athletes at Paralympic Games in Paris

Strong start for European athletes at Paralympic Games in Paris 6.9.2024

Day one of the Paracanoeing competitions at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games brought good results of European representatives, who will be among the main medal contenders in upcoming finals.

Great Britain’s Charleotte Henshaw secured herself a place in the final of women’s VL3 and KL2 events. “It was always going to be a difficult morning backing up the kayak with the va’a in the space of 45 minutes. But we have been working on doing that in training and I am pleased to get a good run under my belt. I haven’t had a hit out against the full field but good to have put down a solid performance and one that I was pretty happy with,” said Henshaw.

Hungary’s Katalin Varga, Britain’s Hope Gordon, Emma Wiggs and Laura Sugar, France’s Nelia Barbosa,  Ukraine’s Maryna Mazhula will also be the strong favourites for the medals.

In men’s KL1 event Peter Pal Kiss (HUN) and Remy Boulle (FRA) showed a strong competition ahead of the final. “It was great but a very tough race. It was a little bit windy. I didn’t expect this. The time is not very good, but maybe in the final I can do better. I think Remy Boulle will be faster in the final, so I need more rest to compete tomorrow. I have a lot of confidence because my family and friends are here cheering for me, so I feel the motivation,” said Kiss.

Ukraine’s Vladyslav Yepifanov and Spain’s Juan Antonio Valle also stood out on the opening day.
