Strong start for Germany on the opening day of 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships 29.8.2019

The 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships in Coimbra, Portugal, kicked off with 59 games that were played today in men's and women's senior and U21 age groups. Germany - one of the main contenders for the European Champion titles in all categories opened the championships with eleven secure wins in four categories.


German senior women's team is the defending champion from two years ago. In 2017 they have won in the final of European Championships in Saint-Omer against France and today they have recorded three wins in the group stage of the tournament. First they played 2-1 against Poland, then won 5-3 in a match with Spain and finished the day with 6-2 win against Netherlands. Three wins on the opening day mean they are firmly in the first position of group A. Spain, Italy and France all won three points today. In B group of women's senior tournament Great Britain and France lead the scoreboard with seven points each and Denmark has three points.
 
 
In men's senior event Spain won at the last European Championships. Today they have only played one match and had to congratulate their opponents from the British team on win with 4-2. It was much better day for Germany, Italy and Poland in men's senior tournament. They all have won both two games they have played today. Germany beat Finland and Portugal (both times 7-1), Italy beat Austria with a result 12 - 1 and Denmark 4 - 0, while Poland celebrated wins in matches with Austria (12 - 3) and Denmark (2 - 1). Great Britain is on the top of men's senior group A, Germany leads in group B, Italy in group C and Netherlands in group D.
 
 
Germany and France celebrated three wins in today's men's U21 category. Silver medallists of the last U21 men's European Championships tournament, the team of Germany, won in the opening match of the day with 6 - 1 against Czech Republic, then scored six times in game against Netherlands (6 - 3) and won 7 - 1 in a match with Denmark. French team did not have much trouble with Belgium as the game finished with a score 13 - 0. They also won against Italy with 8 - 2 and against Lithuania 3 - 0.
Spain is in the lead of group A with four points, Germany in group B with nine points, Portugal in group C with seven points and France in group D with nine points.
 
 
In women's U21 tournament Germany won three times today, with 6 - 0 in a match with Switzerland, 3 - 1 against Ireland and 10 - 4 against Netherlands. This brought German team a total of nine points and first place in group A. Great Britain is second in this group with a total of six points, after their wins against Ireland and Switzerland. In group B Spain and France each won six points today. Spain beat Portugal and Poland, while France won against Italy and Portugal.
