Swiss and German paddlers dominated at second ECA Wildwater Sprint European Cup 10.3.2024

The 2024 ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup series continued in Germany, where second race of the season was organised in Fulda. German and Swiss paddlers took majority of the podium position.


The 52nd edition of Fulda Race was on the programme this weekend, and Saturday’s sprint race counted as the second ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup race, where athletes from seven countries were on the start line. Majority of the top positions were won by German and Swiss paddlers.
 
In senior men’s kayak event Swiss paddler Cornel Bretscher took the win ahead of his teammate Luis Clavadetscher, who was 0.05 seconds behind. Marcel Blum from Germany was third. In the U18 men’s kayak event Germans Nicolas Niederle Gomez and Paul Denhof were first and second respectively, while Belgium’s representative Jules Van Nieuwenhove took third position.
 
In women’s senior kayak event two German representatives took the top two podium positions. Luisa Puttkammer won ahead of Sophia Schmidt, while Mona Clavadetscher finished third. In junior race Juli Faass (GER) and Lisbeth Antons (GER) took double win for Germany, and Mia Schlappi (SUI) was third.
 
Jonah Mueller (SUI) produced the fastest time in men’s canoe sprint event, and won ahead of German canoeist Normen Weber who was 0.33 seconds behind. Croatian representative Janko Presecki was third.
 
Presecki joined forces in men’s C2 event with Tomislav Hohnjec and Croatian duo won the race ahead of two German crews Bene Scholz – Dennis John and Artur Mietsch – Joscha Bruggemann.
Competitions in Fulda were also held in U16, U14, U12, master events. The full results of the race are available below.
