The 2017 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships in Portugal has just ended, but there is no rest for European paddlers. This week Szeged, Hungary, will host the 2017 ECA Dragon Boat Nations and Clubs European Championships and ECA Dragon Boat European Cup for Masters with some well-known names on the start.
Organisers expect to welcome about 1350 participants from nine countries – Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and of course the host nation Hungary. The Hungarian team will be very strong. Renata Csay, 18-times canoe marathon World Champion, who won two gold medals last weekend at Canoe Marathon European Championships in Ponte de Lima and her K2 partner from Portugal Alexandra Barra, will be on the start of this championship too, as well as Attila Gyore, 11-times canoe marathon World Champion.
The competition will not only be nation’s competition, but club competition as well – with 40 teams taking part in the event.
The 2017 ECA Dragon Boat Nations and Clubs European Championships and ECA Dragon Boat European Cup for Masters will start on Wednesday, 5th July 2017, with an opening ceremony, while the first competitions will follow a day after. On Thursday the championships will start with the 200 metres heats, semi-finals and finals in 10 seater boats in clubs category. In the afternoon national 200 metres 10 seater boats heats and finals will follow. On Friday club and national 200 metres 20 seater boats and club/national 2000 metres 20 seater as well as 10 seater boats events will be organised. On Saturday we will see club and national 500 metres 10 seater boats events, and on Sunday the championships will close with national and clubs 500 metres 20 seater boats events, and club and national 2000 metres 10 seater boats races.
