The 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships brought the first finalists 28.6.2018

The picturesque Santa Caterina Lake in Auronzo di Cadore hosts the 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships and the first competition day brought the 1000 and 500 metres heats and also the first finalists.


Danish kayaker Rasmus Knudsen had an excellent day producing the fastest times in junior 1000 and 500 metres races to secure himself a place in the A finals of the mentioned events.
 
 
Young Romanian and Belarus paddlers too had a good start of the championships. Laura Plesca produced the fastest time of the day in junior women’s K1 1000 metres heats, Leonid Carp was the fastest man of the C1 U23 1000 metres heats, and Catalin Chirila and Stefan Strat (all Romania) were the best in men’s C2 U23 1000 meters event.
 
 
Belorussia’s Kiryll Smalianik and Uladzislau Litvunau produced the fastest time of the day in K2M junior 1000 metres event, Aliaksandr Hatalski – Vitali Asetski were the best in C2M junior 1000 meters heats, Dzimitry Levanchuk – Uladzislau Sukhanosau crossed the finish line with the fastest time in men’s K2 U23 1000 metres heats, and to follow her teammates from Belarus Ina Sauchuk set the best time in women’s junior 500 metres event.
 
 
Arcadi Goncearov from Moldova was the fastest paddler of the day in men’s C1 junior 1000 metres heats, Oleh Kukharyk from Ukraine won in men’s K1 U23 1000 metres heats, Blanka Bordacs from Hungary produced the fastest time in women’s U23 1000 metres event and Russian Olga Aleksandrova crossed the finish line with the best time in women’s C1 junior 500 meters heats.
 
 
In the afternoon the competition programme resumed with the remaining 500 metres events heats. Noemi Pupp from Hungary was the fastest in women’s U23 K1 heats, Hungarians were the fastest also in women’s U23 K4 500 metres heats. Noemi Lucz, Dora Solyom, Blanka Kiss and Zsofia Szenasi were part of this crew. Artuur Peters from Belgium set the fastest time in men’s K1 U23 500 metres heats and Kseniia Kurach (RUS) was the best in women’s U23 500 metres heats.
 
 
Katrine Jensen – Sara Milthers (DEN) produced the best run in K2W junior 500 metres race, Justyna Iskrzycka and Paulina Paszek (POL) did the same in women’s U23 category. Maria Olarasu and Daniela Cociu from Moldova showed the best form of the day in women’s C2 500 metres junior heats, and Catalin Chirila and Stefan Strat who were the fastest already in 1000 metres U23 C2M heats, repeated good performance in 500 metres heats setting the best time in this event.
 
 
There were four more events held today. Men’s K4 junior crew from Belarus (Kiryl Smalianik, Anton Novak, Uladzislau Litvinau and Yauheni Liabik) crossed the finish line with the best time at 500 metres distance, Ukrainians Dmytro Ozymok, Pavlo Semeniuk, Oleksandr Yatsiuk and Illia Sharhorodskyi were the best in men’s C4 Junior 500 metres heats, Samuel Balaž, Csaba Zalka, Milan Frana and Tibor Linka from Slovakia were the fastest crew of the men’s U23 500 metres heats, while Czech paddlers Štepanka Sobiškova, Sofie Kinclova, Katerina Zarubova and Barbora Galadova produced the best run in women’s junior K4 500 metres heats.
 
 
On Friday we will follow the semifinals in the 500 and 1000 metres events and later in the afternoon heats in 200 metres events will follow.
