Only two days after the 2021 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships concluded in Solkan, this venue is ready to host another big event. The 2021 ECA Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships starts today with an opening ceremony, and tomorrow we will follow the first races.
Around 200 athletes will fight for the Junior and U23 European Champion titles on the Soča River between Wednesday and Saturday in classic and sprint events. Young competitors come from 15 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Slovenia.
Among those on the startline there are many competitors we have seen two weeks ago at a senior Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Sabero, and will be main candidates for the medals this week. These names include Cecilia Panato, Barbora Dimovova, Marie Nemcova, Etienne Klatt, Luca Barone, Elsa Gaubert, Helene Raguenes ... The athletes that should not be overlooked this week are also Ana Šteblaj, Zuzana Dziadkova, Giulia Formenton, Valentina Razzauti, Vojtech Matejicek, Lisa Koestle, Tereza Kneblova ...
The championships will start with individual classic race on Wednesday and continue with team classic races on Thursday. The start of this race will be in Solkan, Slovenia, and finish over the border in Piuma, Italy.
On Friday, we will follow individual sprint heats and on Satutrday the championships in Solkan will conclude with individual sprint finals and team sprint races.
