A very strong international canoe slalom race will be held this weekend on the 1992 Olympic Course in La Seu d’Urgell, Spain. There the first of the two races in the Pyrenees Cup competition, the second race will be in Pau, will be held over the next two days. This race will also count for the ECA Canoe Slalom European Cup series and will open this year’s edition of this series.
Traditionally, the March race in La Seu d’Urgell attracted many international paddlers. This time representatives of Spain, France, Andorra, Ukraine, Czechia, Poland, Portugal, Great Britain, Norway, Germany, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Senegal and Ireland will be on the start line. Olympic and European Games medallists, World and European Championships medallists and World Cup medallists will be among the participants, which include Maialen Chourraut, Miquel Trave, Ryan Westley, Mallory Franklin, Monica Doria Vilarrubla, Thomas Koechlin, Viktoria Us, Martin Dougoud, Boris Neveu, Romane Prigent, David Llorente, Paulina Pirro, Kacper Sztuba and many more.
On Saturday, the athletes will compete in canoe slalom. Race format will be one heats run, then followed by A and B final. The top 10 paddlers in each event from heats run will advance to A final, while the others will then compete in the B final. On Sunday, the entire day will be dedicated to kayak cross competition with heats, quarterfinal, semifinal and final stage.
