The first gold medals of the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships to Great Britain, France and Czechia 15.8.2024

Thursday's afternoon programme of the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Krakow brought the first medal events. Athletes fought for the European Champion titles in men's and women's junior team events. France won two gold medals, while Great Britain and Czechia won one gold medal each.


British kayakers Sam Leaver, Ben Haylett and Jonny Dickson were an unbeatable trio of the men's U23 kayak team event. They navigated through the gates fast and most of all without penalties (106.44) and this brought them the 2024 team European Champion title. French representatives Anatole Delassus, Leo Vuitton and Edgar Paleau - Brasseur won silver medal. They were 2.35 second behind with six penalty seconds. Bronze medal went to Italy with Xabier Ferrazzi, Gabriele Grimandi and Tommaso Panico (+2.61, 2 penalty seconds).
 
France celebrated team European Champion title in women's U23 kayak team event with Emma Vuitton, Eva Pietracha and Ilona Martin Laemle. With four penalty seconds added to their final time 122.59 they produced three and a half seconds faster time than Germans. German team with Antonia Plochmann, Emily Apel and Paulina Pirro had six penalty seconds (+3.54). Bronze medal was won by Czech kayakers Lucie Nesnidalova, Katerina Bekova and Klara Kneblova (+3.62).
 
French anthem was played also in honour of men's junior kayak team. Despite the two touches and consequent four seconds penalty Martin Cornu, Elouan Debliquy and Titouan Estanguet won with more than a second and a half advantage over Czech team. Michal Kopecek, Jachym Burger and Martin Panzer had a penalty free run to win their silver medal (+1.69). Germans Felix Sachers, Kilian Kaeding and Paul Lehner were third (+4.48) with two penalty seconds.
 
In the last race of the day, Czechia won European Champion title in women's junior kayak team event thanks to Bara Galuskova, Marketa Hojdova and Klara Mrazkova, who had a clean run and a huge advantage at the end (123.39).  Great Britain with Anna Kontchakov, Zoe Blythe - Shields and Sofia Alfer finished second (+5.64), while bronze medal went to the hands of Slovenia with Naja Pinteric, Ula Skok and Sara Globokar (+9.04).
 
On Friday, we will follow canoe heats in Junior and U23 age groups, canoe team events and kayak cross individual race.
