Second competition day of the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships in Coimbra brought 59 games in four categories: men's and women's senior and U21 age groups. It is getting clearer which teams will fight for the medals as tomorrow is the first final day in Portugal. Men and Women will fight for the U21 European Champion titles on Saturday afternoon.


Fourteen teams in men's U21 event and eight teams in women's U21 event took part in the tournament and came to Portugal with high goals. On Saturday the medals will be awarded to top three teams in each of the U21 categories.
 
Two years ago Germany, Poland and France picked up medals in women's U21 event and Great Britain, Germany and Russia in men's U21 event. This year Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Germany aim for the top position in men's U21 category. In today's games Germany did not have mercy for the host nation as Portugal lost 1 - 10, and spectators enjoyed many goals also in some other matches. Ireland beat Czech Republic 8 - 5, Lithuania scored eight times for a win against Russia who scored four goals, Netherlands lost 5 - 7 to Spain, and beat France 6 - 4, while Belgium and Czech Republic finished the match with a friendly score 8 - 8.
 
In women's U21 part of the tournament on Saturday morning the remaining matches of the second round will be played, followed by semifinals and of course also final. Today 16 matches has been played in this category. Italy scored 18 goals in a match with still unexperiened Portuguese team who scored once in this match. French U21 team also produced a strong win 15 - 2 against Poland and also beat Spain and Switzerland today. The defending champions from Germany opened second day of the championships with a 3 - 3 tie with Great Britain, but later in the day showed strength in a match woth Switzerland (10 - 3).
 
 
Majority of today's games was played in U21 age group, but spectators from all over Europe were able to enjoy matches in senior categories too. German women's national team, who is also the defending champion, beat Italy 3 - 2 and France 4 - 3.
 
 
In men's senior part of the tournament Spain, who defends the gold medal from 2017, recorded two wins today, but it was very tight on both occasions, they have won against France (4 - 3) and Russia (7 - 6). The team of Germany who was second at the previous European Championships also won twice today. The match with Belgium ended with the result 4 - 3 and match with Poland 7 - 2.
