We are a little more than three months away of the International Congress of Canoeing Coaches which will be held in Catoira, Spain, between 26th and 28th October 2018. This will be the seventh edition of the congress, which primarily focuses on sprint canoeing but this year’s congress brings a novelty – a congress for canoe slalom coaches as well. Around three hundred participants are expected to come to Galicia this October.
The event is organised by Royal Spanish and Galician Canoe Federation, Catoira Municipality, Faculty of Education and Sport of Vigo University in collaboration with European Canoe Association and International Canoe Federation.
Presenters and experts from different European countries will share their experience and knowledge on different topics from canoe sprint and canoe slalom. Organisers announce participation of experts from Spain, Hungary, France, Great Britain, Ukraine, Italy, Slovenia and more. Besides these presentations attendees will be able to take part in different workshops that are planned for the weekend.
One of the most successful Spanish coaches Miguel Garcia will be only one of the speakers from Spain and he will be accompanied by Hungarians Katalin Szilardi, Andras Szabo, Miklos Simon, Ukrainians Aleaner Nikonorov and Yurii Cheban, Briton Jon Schofield, Italian Andrea Pace, Slovenian Jernej Župančič Regent, to name just a few speakers.
Organisers haven’t forgotten about paracanoeing as they will offer a round table led by Ismael Ulai and Jonathan Monteagudo.
For the first time congress will include canoe slalom topics upon the special request of Ekaitz Saies, technical director of Spanish team, who shared the wish of canoe slalom coaches to get the opportunity to be part of the congress. One of the main speakers at the congress will be Jean Michel Prono, chair of ICF’s canoe slalom committee. There will be also presentations of the most prominent Spanish coaches, such as Xabi Etxaniz, a man behind the success of Spanish Olympic Champion Maialen Chourraut.
She and Saul Craviotto are also invited to this year’s congress to share their experience of top level sport with coaches as well as interested athletes of Spanish clubs.
President of Galician Canoe Federation, Fredi Bea, pointed out the importance of the congress for this region, saying that Galicia has a great potential in this sport and it is fundamental for coaches to keep being part of world’s coaching elite.
Congress will start on October 26th 2018.
