Voting period for World Paddle Awards is open

Voting period for World Paddle Awards is open 28.11.2018

The world paddle awards are stepping into the fifth year and among the nominees for the best in canoeing world in the year 2018 are many European representatives who can be found in all seven categories.


In the 2017 edition of the World Paddle Awards six out of seven awards went to the hands of European representatives who are in majority of this year’s nominations as well. In the sportswoman of the year category we can find European and World paracanoe champions Emma Wiggs (GBR) and Helene Ripa (SWE), wildwater canoeing world champion Martina Satkova (CZE), multiple European and World championships medallist in canoe sprint Danuta Kozak (HUN), Australian Jessica Fox, Laurence Vincent-Lapointe from Canada and French waveski surfer Oceane Lucas.
 
In the sportsman of the year category Portugal has two candidates: canoe sprint star Fernando Pimenta and canoe marathon star Jose Ramalho. Spanish canoe freestyler Quim Fontane Maso, Slovak C1M slalom team and British canoe polo player Jack Playford are also European nominees. Cory Hill (AUS) and Steeve Teihotaata (PYF) round up the nominees in this category.
 
In the junior of the year category we can find last year’s winner Barbora Dimovova (CZE), Eva Alina Hočevar (SLO), Benedek Kos (HUN), Doriane Delassus (FRA), Ottilie Robinson – Shaw (GBR), Thorbjorn Rask (DEN), Tom Dolle (FRA), Terence Saramadif (MRI) and Sophia Jensen (CAN).
 
Nominees in the team category of the year are German canoe polo team, TR Hiko and TR Omeha (both CZE), Essequibo (GBR), Shell Va’a (PYF) and Outer Harbour Warriors (CAN).
 
The following names are part of the foundation award category, Alicia Casas Zaragoza (ESP), Aniol and Gerd Serrasolses (ESP), Colin Radmore (GBR), Kate Culverwell and Anna Blackwell (GBR), Rob Thompson (GBR), Zbigniew Miazek (POL), Myrian Fox (AUS), Bradley John Fisher (RSA) and Joe Mornini (USA).
 
In the media category you can support Daniel Stach (CZE), Julien Billaut (FRA), Olaf Obsommer (GER), Carolyn Cooper (AUS), Joe Jacobi (USA), Craig Freimond (RSA) and Ken Whiting (CAN).
 
The seventh category is the lifetime achievement, but here only the votes of the academy count, not the votes of general public. The golden paddle will be given to one of the six candidates: Csaba Szanto (HUN), Roberto d’Angelo (ITA), Peter Micheler (GER), Sabine Eichenberger (SUI), Jackie Dillon (AUS) or Claudia van Wijk (CAN).
