The second competition weekend in Australia at the Sydney Olympic Games canoe slalom venue brought Australian Open race and another podium positions for European paddlers who train for the upcoming season in the land Down Under. This time Martina Wegman and Marjorie Delassus took the top podium positions.
Following the Oceania Championships canoe course in Penrith hosted another major canoe slalom event with strong European participation. Martina Wegman (NED) and Marjorie Delassus (FRA) managed to win in their respective events, while the wins in other events stayed in the hands of Australian paddlers. The race was organized in a format of one qualification run and finals B and A.
Dutch canoe slalom paddler Martina Wegman took the win in women’s kayak final. She produced a penalty free run and was at the end 0.27 seconds faster than Australian Jessica Fox. Australian paddled much faster but picked up four penalty seconds in her final run, which pushed her to the second position and Wegman celebrated a win. Noemie Fox (AUS) was third.
European representatives celebrated a win also in women’s kayak cross final where Marjorie Delassus (FRA) crossed the finish line ahead of Klaudia Zwolinska (POL) and Noemie Fox (AUS).
Marjorie Delassus was on the podium also in women’s canoe final. Jessica Fox won in the final despite the four penalty seconds, Delasuss on the other side had one touch and consequently two penalty seconds, and was 3.90 seconds behind Fox. Czech representative Gabriela Satkova was third, 4.19 second behind Fox.
Australian Lucien Delfour was the best in men’s kayak final, where two French paddlers took second and third place, with Anatole Delassus being second (+1.49) and Mathurin Madore (+2.53) third.
Madore (FRA) was third in men’s kayak cross final, where Timothy Anderson (AUS) and Martin Dougoud (SUI) crossed the finish line ahead of him.
In men’s canoe Australia’s Tristan Carter won ahead of Adam Burgess (GBR) who was only 0.01 seconds behind. Both paddlers produced a penalty free run, while Kaylen Basset won third place with two penalty seconds.
