The 2021 ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Spain will take place on a reconstructed venue in Sabero.

The Royal Spanish Canoe Federation reports that the venue of the 2021 ECA Wildwater Caneoing European Championships will be organised on a course which has undergone some serious reconstruction works on a by the river. The works have been financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Higher Sports Council and the Sabero City Council.

The Esla River flowing by the eastern mountain of León now offers an opportunity to organise wildwater, canoe slalom, extreme canoe slalom or canoe freestyle international competitions. The first major international event will be this year's ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships which will be held between 12th and 15th August. In 2019 this channel hosted Spanish National Wildwater Canoeing Championships which served also as a test event for the Europeans.

Among the works done were the reconstruction of the banks, construction of a pedestrian bridge and electric infrastructure.
