World Water Day

World Water Day 22.3.2018

Did you know that today, 22nd March, is the WORLD WATER DAY? It is an annual observance day to highlight the importance of freshwater. World Water Day is celebrated around the world with a variety of events. We celebrate the 25th edition of World Water day this year – the first World Water Day was designated by the United Nations in 1993. This day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.

UN selects a theme each year, this year's theme is ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century. Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home; affecting their health, education and livelihoods.
