Young Ukrainian athlete passed away at the age of 24

Young Ukrainian athlete passed away at the age of 24 3.12.2021

Tragic news comes from Ukraine. Borislav Bizu, former canoe sprint athlete, has passed away at the age of 24 following the complications of Covid-19.

Borislav Bizu, who was introduced to canoeing in 2008, has been very successful canoe sprint athlete in his youth career, winning medals at Junior European and World Championships. In his career he won ten medals at major events. In 2016 he also competed in senior level – at a World Cup in Portugal.

His promising sporting career was cut short when he was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus – a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease. After that he still competed at some competitions in Ukraine, but focused on coaching work instead.

After contracting Covid-19 in addition to his already existing health problems, he developed sepsis in a hospital, an extreme response from his body to this Covid infection.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.
