Europeans dominated first part of Canoe Slalom World Cup series 2.7.2019

The first part of the Canoe Slalom World Cup series lead competitors to London – Lee Valley, Bratislava and Ljubljana – Tacen. European representatives did great, picking up majority of the medals.


British paddler Mallory Franklin was the first name of the World Cup race in London – Lee Valley winning gold medals in both women’s kayak and canoe finals. More on the first world cup race is available here.
 
The second canoe slalom world cup race of the year was organised in Bratislava, Slovakia. Slovak kayaker Andrej Malek won his first medal in World cup series, and it was a gold medal for him in front of Slovak fans. Michal Pasiut from Poland was second in men?s kayak final and Boris Neveu from France third.
 
Austrian Corinna Kuhnle won in women’s kayak final ahead of Luuka Jones from New Zealand and Ricarda Funk from Germany.
 
Germany celebrated gold medal in men’s canoe event thanks to reigning World Champion Franz Anton, Slovak Matej Benuš was second and Slovenian Luka Božič third.
 
Claire Jacquet from France was unbeatable in women’s canoe event. Monica Doria Vilarrubla from Andorra was second and Ana Satila from Brazil third.
 
In extreme slalom Czech kayaker Vavrinec Hradilek, Brazilian Pedro Goncalves and Russian Alexander Nepogoin reached the podium in men’s category and Americans Ashley Nee and Evy Leibfarth and Russian Daria Kuznetsova in women’s category.
 
The last race in the first part of the World Cup series was held in Ljubljana – Tacen. It was an unforgettable weekend for Italian team, winning three gold medals.
 
Roberto Colazingari won the first gold medal for Italy of the weekend in men’s canoe event, where Slovenian Anže Berčič and Slovak Alexander Slafkovsky joined him on the podium.
 
German-born Italian kayaker Stefanie Horn was unbeatable in women’s kayak final. Eva Terčelj from Slovenia was second and Viktoriia Us from Ukraine third.
 
The third gold medal for Italy came in men’s kayak final thanks to Giovanni de Gennaro. Slovenian favourite Peter Kauzer was second and Czech paddler Jiri Prskavec third.
 
In women’s canoe final Australian paddler Jessica Fox picked up gold medal, Austrian Viktoria Wolffhardt won silver medal and American teenager Evy Leibfarth bronze medal.
 
In women’s kayak extreme race Martina Wegman from the Netherlands won gold medal, ahead of German Caroline Trompeter and Slovenian Ajda Novak. Canadian kayaker Ben Hayward was the best in men’s extreme slalom race, Brazilian Pedro Goncalves was second and Italian Christian de Dionigi third.
 
The canoe slalom world cup series will continue late in August and early in September with races in Markkleeberg and Prague.
