Like many other paddlers members of the German canoe sprint team decided to prepare for the new season in Seville. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic many international athletes experienced difficulties travelling back home as countries imposed strict travel restrictions and bans. Among them were Germans, and Ronald Rauhe explained how they managed to get back home.

The future of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo has come to great risk after the Covid-19 pandemic and health emergency which is above all other aspects of life right now, but the sportsmen and sportswomen have already put a lot of efforts to be in the best form. Some of them have already returned home from warmer places, others are still at training camps. At the age of 23 Jan Vandrey, canoeist from Potsdam, surprisingly took the gold medal at Rio Olympic Games in men’s C2 1000 metres event together with Sebastian Brendel. After that he won three more medals at European and World Championships, but in C4. This year he wishes to be in top form to fight for the Olympic place.
