European Canoe Association (ECA) decided to introduce new Canoe Slalom competition series to offer more top level competitions for international athletes. The ECA Open Slalom Cup will be open to all nations, whose national federations are members of the ICF, as the ECA series will use the existing ICF canoe slalom ranking races. This season brings the test of the series to see the feedback from the athletes and federations.

There was no surprise at the recently held gala awards of the Portuguese Canoe Federation in Coimbra. European and World Champion Fernando Pimenta was named best male athlete of the year, while Maria Rei received an award for the best female competitor of the year.

The International Regatta Rio Negro (Regata Internacional Del Rio Negro) in Argentina is considered one of the toughest in the world. Competitors must paddle more than 300 kilometres in eight competition days and in seven stages to reach the finish line. Every year several European paddlers take part in this sporting event and finish the challenge among the best.

Canoe Sprint venue in Brandenburg will host an international regatta for future stars of sprint canoeing. With a lack of strong international competitions for younger generations of canoe sprinters German organisers decided to host the regatta in Brandenburg an de Havel from 24th to 26th May 2019.

Like in the previous years the ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cups will be held between April and August. Athletes in senior category will compete in Skopje, Osilnica, Augsburg, La Seu d’Urgell, Piateda and Česke Budejovice.
