Bosnian kayaker Darko Savić, who was recently named best sportsman of Republika Srpska (one of two constitutional and legal entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other being the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the year 2018, took on a special challenge. Together with a colleague he paddled the 500 kilometres between his hometown Banja Luka and Serbian capital Belgrade.

Lithuanian Canoe Federation awarded the best athletes of the year in Trakai. This year the main award for paddler of the year went to Artūras Seja who won medals at Senior and U23 European and World Championships in the season 2018.

Portuguese canoe sprinter Fernando Pimenta received an award for the best sportsman of the year in Portugal. This award was given to him by the Portuguese Olympic Committee. Canoe Marathon European Champion José Ramalho also received a special award at the same ceremony, an ethics award.

Slovak canoeist Matej Beňuš, silver medallist of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and multiple medallist of European and World Championships, is preparing for the pre-Olympic season under the supervision of a new coach. He joined forces with his former teammate and 2016 Olympic champion in C2 Peter Škantár.
