With no international competitions scheduled until the fall Portuguese canoe marathon paddlers competed at national championships which took place in Montemor-o-Velho. Jose Ramalho, Ana Afonso and Sergio Maciel managed to defend the senior national champion titles.

Slavonski Brod was awarded the 2023 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships earlier this year. The past weekend it hosted the Croatian canoe marathon national championships where the best Croatian canoe sprinter Antun Novaković took the win in men’s K1 senior event.

Croatian Canoe Federation and organisers in the city of Slavonski Brod were happy to hear that ECA’s Board of Directors awarded them the organisation of the 2023 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships. The last canoe marathon European Championships in Croatia was organised in 2018 in Metković.

Danish canoe marathon paddler Mads Pedersen is one of the finalists for the World Games athlete of the year. In 2019 he excelled both at European and World Championships, becoming the first athlete to win U23 and Senior European Champion title at the same championships and also becoming U23 and Senior World Champion in the same season.
