Ottilie Robinson Shaw, the 2018 Junior Canoe Freestyle European Champion, was among the winners of the Active Essex Sports awards. At a ceremony that was held at Chelmsford City Racecourse she received an award for the Essex Young Sports personality of the year.

Tom Dolle was the most successful competitor of the 2018 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships that was held this week in Bratislava. French youngster celebrated the European Champion title in men's junior K1 event and a bronze medal in men's C1 event. Tomasz Czaplicki, Anne Huebner, Lukaš Červinka and Ottilie Robinson Shaw also picked up gold medals at Europeans in Slovakia.

The penultimate phase of the 2018 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships in Bratislava is done and all the finalists who will fight for the European Champion titles on Sunday are known. On Saturday Tom Dolle (K1M Junior), Zofia Tula (K1W) and Joaquim Fontane I Maso (K1M) won the semi-final stage of the respective events. All three were in the leading positions already in the preliminaries.

The remaining two preliminaries - women's K1 and men's junior K1 - have been held at the 2018 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships in Bratislava. Ten competitors in each event have advanced to the next round of the competition with Zofia Tula winning women's K1 preliminaries and Tom Dolle being the best in men's junior K1 preliminary round.

Bratislava, Slovakia, not only hosts the Canoe Slalom Junior and U23 European Championships, but also the 2018 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships, which is run in the channel next to where the slalom competition is held. On the opening day of championships men's K1 and C2 and women's junior K1 events preliminary rounds were organised.
