This was the 42nd edition of senior canoe slalom world championships and the Augsburg Eiskanal hosted the championships for the fourth time (previously hosting in 1957, 1985 and 2003). A total of 380 athletes from 70 countries participated in the event. Germany was the most successful nation, winning a total of nine medals.
