Olympic Champion Nikolai Gorbachev passed away at the age of 70

Belarusian canoeing is mourning the death of Olympic Champion Nikolai Stepanovich Gorbachev who died at the age of 70. Nikolai Gorbachev was sprint canoeist who competed in the 1970s. During his career he won medals at Olympic Games and World Championships.

Double Spanish win in Pau

This year's Canoe Slalom European Championships location in Pau, France, hosted the first race in the Pyrenees Cup race series. Olympic Champion Maialen Chourraut from Spain won in women’s kayak final, her compatriot Ander Elosegi was the fastest in men’s canoe, while Martin Dougoud from Switzerland won in men’s kayak and French paddler Lucie Prioux in women’s canoe.

Markkleeberg hosted the first ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup

The venue in Markkleeberg, Germany, location of the 2015 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships, hosted the first ever ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup race. European Canoe Association introduced new Canoe Slalom competition series to offer more top level competitions for international athletes.

Croatian and Serbian celebration at the first ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup in 2019

The picturesque Matka Canyon in Skopje, North Macedonia, hosted the first ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup race of the year. Croatian and Serbian paddlers took the wins in five events.
