Romania, more precisely Pitesti, hosted the 2021 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships which attracted many competitios who fought for the World titles for the first time after 2019. Hungary again won the majority of the medals. Vanda Kiszli became World Champion both in short distance race as well as in 25.9 kilometres long marathon.

Bratislava also hosted the 2021 ICF Wildwater Sprint canoeing World Championships. Slovenian kayaker Nejc Žnidarčič defended his title from 2019 and wrote history by becoming the first wildwater kayaker to win five World Champion titles.

23-year-old Elena Apel was the first name of the 2021 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Bratislava. German won the World Champion title in women's C1 and two silver medals in kayak and extreme slalom.

Twelve races in six venues were organised in the 2021 ECA Junior Canoe Slalom European Cup series. Young paddlers from Slovakia, Italy and Slovenia were the winners of the overall standings in four events and two age groups.

The 2021 ICF Ocean Racing World Championships was dominated by representatives of the Republic South Africa, but European paddlers had lot of success on the Canary Islands too. Ten medals from the championships on Lanzarote Island went to European kayakers, including gold in men's junior event thanks to Portuguese representative Bernardo Pereira.
