With less than a year to go Team GB started announcing athletes who will fight for the medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. As a part of the celebrations marking the 55th anniversary of the Opening Ceremony of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics canoeing team (sprint and slalom) has been officially introduced.

The Tiber River has hosted the first edition of Rome Canoe Marathon - Paddling for the Environment event which attracted participants in kayaks and canoes, SUPs, dragon boats and rafts. The course of the marathon was 14 kilometres long, with start at Ponte Milvio and finish at Castel Sant'Angelo.

Czech Canoe Union awarded their best competitors in the season 2019 which was again very successful with medals at European and World Championships. Jiri Prskavec, canoe slalom paddler who won his second world champion title this year in La Seu d’Urgell, was named best sportsman of the year.

Croatian canoeing mourns the loss of Dubravko Mataković - Čiči who passed away at the age of 77 after a long illness. He was the first Croatian wildwater paddler who participated at the Olympic Games. In 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he finished 25th in men’s K1.
