Czech and British team successful during the opening day of Canoe Slalom European Championships in Prague

The first competition day of the 2018 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships in Prague is over. Even though most of the favourites fulfilled their goals and advanced to the semifinal we’ve seen some upsets with last year’s European Championships medallists Nadine Weratschnig and Thomas Koechlin failing to qualify for the semifinal. Kašpar – Šindler were the fastest in men’s C2 heats, Mallory Franklin in C1W event, Jiri Prskavec in K1M, Fiona Pennie in K1W and Sideris Tasiadis in C1M heats.

We are live from Prague on Friday (1st June)

European Canoe Association will stream Friday’s heats on Canoe Europe Youtube channel. Due to TV rights limitations, unfortunately, Saturday’s and Sunday’s part of the event will not be available live on our Youtube channel, but individual semi-finals and finals as well as team events will be available later, after the embargo limitations are off.

Czech team excited to compete at home course

The wait is over. Tomorrow the first Canoeing European Championships of the season 2018 finally kicks off. Prague, Czech Republic, will host the 2018 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships, and it will be the second ever senior Canoe Slalom European Championships organised in the Czech Republic. The first one was organised in 1998 in Roudnice, approximately 50 kilometres north of Prague. Athletes are excited for the competition finally to start.

Exhibition events to open the championships' week in Prague

Today the 2018 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will officially begin with the opening ceremony, while the first events will start on Friday, when we will see the heats in all categories. Canoeing events in Prague, however, were on the programme even before the official start of championships. Vltava River hosted two traditional promotional events, called Paddleride and Prague Riverside Cross.
