All medals but one at Canoe Marathon World Cup in the hands of European paddlers

Viana do Castelo, located in the northern part of Portugal, hosted the Canoe Marathon World Cup race. The competition saw both short races as well as traditional canoe marathon events. Fourteen sets of medals have been given to the best paddlers of the weekend and all but one of them went to European paddlers. Liudmyla Babak (UKR) won two gold medals in women’s C1, Vanda Kiszli (HUN) was equally successful in women’s K1 event and Jose Ramalho (POR) in men’s K1. In junior category Ronan Foley (IRL) celebrated wins in short race and traditional marathon event, and Florence Duffield (GBR) did the same in women’s junior K1 event. Her teammate Georgia Carmichael was second in the same event on both occasions and William Scammel from Great Britain also picked up two silver medals in junior events.

The week full of canoe slalom events in Prague starts on Monday

The ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships in Prague starts in a week (1-3 June) but the first events of the accompanying program are scheduled already on Monday 28th May. There will be the traditional Paddleride through the historical centre of Prague, Riverside Cross, opening ceremony in Hybernia Theatre and the welcome banquet in the residence of the City Mayor of Prague. The championships will see 207 boats from 27 countries.

Prague is ready to host the 2018 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships

In exactly one week the 2018 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will start in Prague, capital city of Czech Republic. Opening ceremony, however, will be held on Wednesday (30th May), but the first competitions will start on Friday (1st June) when heats in all individual categories will be organised.

Yvonne Schuring ended her competitive canoe sprint career

International canoe sprint events at the highest level in the season 2018 started last week with World Cup race in Szeged, but there were some top athletes missing. Among them was Austrian sprinter Yvonne Schuring who decided to wave goodbye to competitive sport after winning medals at World Championships, World Cups and European Games.

Fair Play Award for Polish kayaker Bukowski

Polish Olympic Committee organised the 51st Fair Play awards ceremony last Wednesday, 23rd May, in Warsaw. The awards were given to those sportsmen and sportswomen who presented outstanding fair play behaviour. Among the winners was Polish kayaker Dariusz Bukowski who earned this award for his act during the last year’s Masters Canoe Marathon World Cup in South Africa.
