One of World’s best canoe sprinters, who was also a very successful wildwater kayaker, Jon Schofield has announced on Twitter his retirement from competitive sport after this season. He will continue his career in canoeing but in a different role after signing a contract with Scottish Canoe Association.

Leipzig's sports awards in canoeing tunes

The city of Leipzig has awarded the best athletes in the previous year and canoeing maintains the strong position in the most populous city in the federal state of Saxony, Germany. Almost 32 thousand votes came in the poll and both main awards – sportswoman and sportsman of the year – went to hands of paddlers. Tina Dietze and Franz Anton celebrated wins in their respective categories.

After two seasons the best canoe slalom paddlers are returning to Pau, France. In 2017 the Stade d’Eaux Vives Parc Aquasports hosted World Championships and this year paddlers will fight for the European Champion titles between 29th May and 2nd June.
