Storm cuts short the ECA Junior Canoe Slalom Cup in Krakow

The canoe slalom venue in Krakow which hosted many international events of the highest level, including Senior, Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships, Junior and U23 World Championships and World Cup events, this weekend welcomed future stars of canoeing. Young canoe slalom paddlers competed in the penultimate event of this year’s ECA Junior Canoe Slalom Cup.

Young Czech slalomists at the top of the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Ivrea

Italian town Ivrea hosted the Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships and majority of the medals went to the hands of European paddlers as it was expected before the competition started. Czech Republic was very successful at the championships. Their athletes won thirteen medals, six of them gold. France won twelve medals, Italy seven, Great Britain six, Spain five, Slovenia four, Slovakia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland each three, Russia two and Sweden one. Paddlers competed in men’s and women’s K1 and C1, C2 mix, team events as well as in extreme slalom events.

European Champion Kauzer again at the top, two wins for Germany

The reigning K1M European Champion Peter Kauzer (SLO) reached the top position once again this season. At the traditional canoe slalom world cup race in Augsburg he produced the best run of all kayakers in the final to finish the race ahead of Jiri Prskavec (CZE) and Hannes Aigner (GER). Sideris Tasiadis (GER) recorded his second world cup win of the season in front of his home crowd and Jasmin Schornberg – Thomas Becker won another gold medal for Germany in C2 mix.
